About the price Free guide: 6 beginner mistakes

The problem we solve

After 7 years in the yacht industry, from entry-level to chief stew positions on 55-meter vessels, one pattern became clear: most beginners struggle with the same fundamental challenges.

They piece together fragmented advice from forums, Facebook groups, and occasional crew tips, but nobody gives them the complete picture.

Through working with hundreds of crew members and tracking what actually leads to success, I discovered:

Beginners typically know only 4-5 agencies, missing 90+ other quality options

Many waste 3-5 months (and significant savings) on ineffective search strategies

The 'word of mouth' system often fails those without established networks

Even experienced crew can't always explain the full process if they found jobs quickly

This guide gives you the tools, strategies, and real-world insights to dramatically improve your chances of landing that first job.

The Market Problem (The Talent Paradox)
Why "Wanting It" Is No Longer Enough?
The superyacht industry is facing a paradox:
Fleet Expansion: Over 6,000 superyachts (>30m) require crew right now.
Green Crew Saturation: In 2024 alone, 7,000 new crew registrations were recorded.
The Reality Check: 30–40% of newcomers leave the industry within their first year due to a mismatch between expectations and reality.
Conclusion: Captains aren't just looking for staff, they need prepared individuals who understand hierarchy and standards. This guide is your filter to ensure you don't become part of the dropout statistics.
A Few Real Yacht Stories
My colleagues from the yachting industry share
how and when they found their first yacht.
  • Oksana
    Chief Stew
She started in early March in Palma de Mallorca. At the time, she already held her STCW, ENG1, and Food Hygiene Level 2 certificates. While dock walking, she spoke with a captain who told her he would only need a stewardess in June, but he kept her CV.
She then flew to France to continue her job search. After three months of searching, on the very last day of her visa, that same captain from her March dock walking contacted her, even after she had changed her phone number, and offered her a seasonal contract.
  • Harrison
    2nd Steward
He started looking for a job in the South of France in 2022, he had just done his courses on the Isle of Wight and headed straight over. All he had at the time was Eng1, STCW and a couple of GUEST courses, Introduction to laundry, housekeeping and service, flower arrangement and Introduction to wine to be exact. He tried every option to increase my chances of finding that first job. I must have walked every dock along the coast twice over. Finding a steward role is sometimes harder than most.
2 months later he was carrying his friends bag to their new boat and it just happens that they had someone drop out last minute and needed a replacement. From that Grand Prix a guest flew him to London to run their birthday party and upon returning to Nice word of mouth traveled and he got daywork easier and eventually his first job.
  • Mai
    Chief Stew
She began her yachting journey in Antibes and completed her STCW and ENG1.
She found a job advertisement on a French recruitment website and combined it with dock walking, although with limited success.
She was hired as a seasonal sole stewardess/chef on a 26m charter/private yacht in the South of France after 2 months of searching.
